สมัยผมเด็กๆ ชอบนั่งรถไฟมาก ได้สัมผัสบรรยากาศชีวิตไทยๆ ดี ถ้าไปกลางวันก็ได้เห็นทิวทัศน์ชนบท ได้เพื่อนใหม่ๆ ที่นั่งไปด้วยกัน หิวก็มีข้าวผัดรถไฟ ถ้าไปกลางคืนก็นอนโคลงเคลง ตื่นขึ้นมากับเสียงตะโกน "ไก่ย่างๆ" เวลาจอดที่สถานีต่างจังหวัด ตอนเช้าตื่นมาก็ได้สูดอากาศสดชื่นพร้อมกับดูแสงแสดทองยองใยของพระอาทิตย์จับขอบฟ้าอีสาน ครับ ยอมรับว่าผมเป็นคน sentimental ผมไปอยู่เดนมาร์กอยู่เกือบหกปี กลับบ้านที่กรุงเทพฯ จำซอยเข้าบ้านไม่ได้เลย เพราะก่อนไปยังเป็นทุ่งสีเขียวอยู่เลย แต่ตอนนี้มีแต่รั้วบ้านเรียงรายทั้งสองข้าง ทำให้ซอยดูแคบไปถนัดตา แต่เมื่อใช้บริการของรถไฟ ก็พบว่าความเปลี่ยนแปลงที่ทำให้ผมจำกรุงเทพฯ แทบไม่ได้ กลับไม่ได้แตะต้องสถาบันรถไฟที่ผมรักเลย ประสบการณ์การนั่งรถไฟยังคงเหมือนเดิมไม่มีผิด แม้ว่าทิวทัศน์ข้างทางจะเปลี่ยนไปบ้าง โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งขยะพลาสติกที่เกลื่อนกลาดข้างรางในเขตเมืองและเขตสถานี ผมไปอยู่อเมริกา 12 ปี กลับมาเมืองไทยก็ยิ่งเห็นความเปลี่ยนแปลงมากมายมหาศาล แต่เมื่อขึ้นรถไฟก็ยังเหมือนผมย้อนกลับไปในกาลเวลา แม้ว่าทิวทัศน์สองข้างทางจะสกปรกกว่าเดิม น่าดูน้อยกว่าเดิม สิ่งที่เปลี่ยนไปคือรถไฟในวัยเด็กของผมไม่เคยแน่นขนัดเท่ากับตอนนี้ ผมเคยครั้งหนึ่งต้องกลับบ้านเกิดที่หนองคายในช่วงวันหยุด ปรากฏว่าต้องยืนบันไดเกือบตลอดคืน จนกระทั่งผู้โดยสารส่วนใหญ่ลงที่อุดรฯ อีกสิ่งหนึ่งที่เปลี่ยนคือดูเหมือนรถไฟโทรมกว่าเดิม ส้วมยังเป็นท่อตรงลงราง (พร้อมกับมีป้าย "โปรดอย่าใช้ห้องน้ำระหว่างอยู่ในสถานี") เวลาเดินทางยาวนานขึ้น ความสะดวกสบายลดน้อยลง ดูเหมือนว่าการรถไฟฯ ไม่ปรับปรุงตัวเองหรือพยายามก้าวตามโลกเลย อาจจะเป็นเพราะว่าผมแก่ตัวลง แต่ทุกวันนี้ผมจะไม่ขึ้นรถไฟถ้าไม่จำเป็นจริงๆ สำหรับหน่วยงานที่ล้าสมัย ขาดทุนเป็นนิจทั้งๆ ที่มีผู้ใช้แน่นอยู่ตลอด คำตอบน่าจะเป็นการเปิดให้มีการแข่งขัน เพราะการแข่งขันเท่านั้นจะสามารถบังคับให้ […]
